Our Sustainability

It all began with a simple idea: "use it again and again instead of throwing it away." In 1998, siblings Jamie and Abigail Forsyth opened a café in Melbourne, where they witnessed the massive amount of waste generated daily by disposable cups. This led to the creation of "KeepCup" in 2009—the world’s first barista-standard reusable cup that harmonizes sustainability and design without compromising convenience.

Since then, as pioneers of the reuse movement, they have championed eco-friendly initiatives within Melbourne’s coffee community and across the globe.

Recycled Materials

KeepCup employs methods that minimise environmental impact as much as possible during the manufacturing process.
One such initiative is the active use of recycled materials.

The recycled content for each material is as follows:
・Cork band: 100%
・Stainless steel: 90%
・Heat-resistant glass: Up to 25%
・Clear plastic: 50%

1% for the Planet

"1% for the Planet" is a non-profit organisation dedicated to encouraging businesses to contribute to natural environmental conservation. It was founded in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, owner of Blue Ribbon Flies. Participating companies and individuals contribute to the protection and restoration of the natural environment by donating 1% of their annual sales to non-profit environmental organisations committed to conservation efforts.

KeepCup became a member in 2019 and donates at least 1% of its global revenue to environmental conservation activities.

B Corp

B Corp is an international private certification awarded to companies that demonstrate a high level of social and environmental performance and a commitment to the public good. It is administered by the U.S.-based non-profit organization "B Lab," and the "B" in the name stands for "Benefit" (referring to social and public benefit).

KeepCup obtained B Corp certification in 2014. The company has been recognized four times as a "B Corp Best for the World Honouree" in the environment category (in 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022).

B Corp certification is not a one-time achievement; companies must undergo recertification every three years. KeepCup continues to make improvements to ensure sustainable business operations, such as transitioning its Australian and London offices to run entirely on solar power and increasing the proportion of women in its workforce.
